BEST BEFORE
Charlie and Sophia are waiting.
Waiting in a doctor’s office to lose their virginity.
Questioning our core assumptions about worthiness, pleasure and girlhood, Best Before is an anarchic tribute to the profundity and ludicrousness of losing your virginity as a fully grown adult.
Featuring two real life best friends and a water cooler they stole from a gym, Best Before is inspired by the abjections and joys of female friendship. Slipping across tempos, ideas and performance modes, this show scrutinises the morality of modern sexual education, sociological myth-making, and how “breaking the lawn chair” was ever an acceptable metaphor in the first place.
Best Before is what would happen if your teenage diary and ‘Waiting for Godot’ had a baby – but that means they’d have to have sex first.
Best Before was originally performed at Camden People’s Theatre,
as part of ‘Calm Down, Dear’ festival in 2019.
The show was due to embark on a small UK tour but was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19.
Supported by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
