What DO WE DO?

HISSYFIT is a new collective of artists, crafting experimental multidisciplinary live performance through a feminist lens.

Based in Glasgow, HISSYFIT make theatre that sometimes combines movement, poetry, sketch comedy, improv and dance. We’re interested in stories, forms and ideas that are inherently political, and can be rigorously examined or reimagined with feminist principles.

HISSYFIT is drawn to making instinctive live performance that teeters on the edge of collapse. We like to use a myriad of theatrical languages to subversively and humourously dissect exciting stories, including ones from our past, ones from our present, and ones that haven’t happened yet.

wHat’s OUR process?

The artists of HISSYFIT come from a multitude of creative backgrounds that include writing, teaching, performing, moving, choreographing, and devising, and these feed into and inform one another. As a company, we prioritise equal collaboration and like to collaborate with artists from other disciplines, often building a show from the ground up as a shared ensemble.

We like to work from instinct first and foremost, which means we regularly use physical stimuli and improvisation to begin our creative process. Historical research also plays a crucial role in our practice, both in nourishing our imaginations and in our endeavour to repopulate familiar historical narratives with female voices, aesthetics and perspectives.
